“Rebel” Receives Awards And High Praise At Film Festivals Around The World

Rebel, the latest film from directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah and CAVIAR producers Bert Hamelinck and Dimitri Verbeeck, has won the award for Best Narrative Feature at the Philadelphia Film Festival, as well as the Audience Award at KlikFilm World Cinema Week in Jakarta. The film previously debuted with the Midnight Screening strand at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where it received high praise from festival attendees.
Rebel is currently enjoying a highly successful theatrical run in Belgium, The Netherlands, and Luxembourg, where viewers are leaving screenings with rave reviews. Critics especially have been impressed, rating the film 95% positively across the board. In the coming weeks, screenings of the film will be held at The Thessaloniki International Film Festival in Greece, The Stockholm International Film Festival in Sweden, and Festival International du Film de Bruxelles in Dakar.
The film follows Kamal, a young man who despite his resolve to help Syrian war victims is forced to join the militia. While Kamal’s younger brother Nassim becomes a target for radical recruiters promising to reunite him with his brother, their mother Leila fights to protect her son and his future.
El Arbi and Fallah previously worked with CAVIAR on Black, a Romeo & Juliet-type drama set in the world of organized crime in Belgium. The duo also directed the blockbuster Bad Boys For Life in 2020.
