Sasha Nathwani Debuts ‘Last Swim’ At Berlin Film Festival And Secures Double Award Win
Caviar director Sasha Nathwani has made his cinematic debut with his first full-length film, ‘Last Swim’, which premiered at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival. The Iranian-British Coming of Age drama opened the Berlinale youth cinema category ‘Generation 14plus’ on February 16th and enjoyed a successful festival run with multiple sold-out screenings, before later taking home the coveted Crystal Bear and the AG Kino Gilde award for Best Generation Film.
Last Swim has also received a myriad of positive reviews from The Guardian, Screen Daily, The Hollywood News and more, as well as international mentions in Vogue Germany, Variety, and The Hollywood Reporter, who have all praised the film for its authentic portrayal of London’s youth and beautiful performances.
Produced by Caviar and Screencrib, Last Swim is written by Nathwani and award-winning Screenwriter & Producer Helen Simmons (Say Your Prayers, Hoard, Bonus Track). It is produced by Caviar London’s Producer Nisha Mullea and Managing Director Sorcha Shepherd, Caviar Co-Founder Bert Hamelinck and Caviar Co-productions Head Robin Kerremans, in collaboration with Film Producers Campbell Von Beaton, Helen Simmons, and James Islay.
It follows the life of 18-year-old Ziba Soofi, a promising British-Iranian teen who leads her friends on an eventful journey through the city, while secretly grappling with a life-changing decision.
The film stars an incredible cast of new and prominent global talent, including German-American actress Narges Rashidi (Gangs of London, Under The Shadows), Solly McLeod (House of The Dragon, Tom Jones), Jay Lycurgo (Titans, The Batman), Denzel Baidoo (Dear England, Suspicion), Lydia Fleming (In From The Cold, Mary and George), and Kurdish-British Actress and Model Deba Hekmat, who plays lead character Ziba.
Also involved is a multi-award-winning production team, including Composer Federico Albanese, Cinematographer Olan Collardy (Rye Lane), Production Designer Julija Fricsone-Gavriss, Costume Designer Natalie Wilkins (Christina Aguilera- Beautiful, Rabbit Trap) and Casting Director Shakyra Dowling to name a few.
Last Swim is currently still in the festival run and is expected to be released internationally later this year.
