Moresnet Makes Its Pink Carpet Debut With Canneseries Global Premiere
Last month, the upcoming Belgian mystery thriller series ‘Moresnet’ made its international debut at the 2024 Canneseries Television Festival in April, where it premiered an exclusive look at its first two episodes as part of the festival’s Official Competition. The premiere was attended by creators Frank Van Passel, Jeff Hoogmartens and Jonas Van Geel, who walked the famous Canneseries pink carpet with the main cast and producers.
Moresnet, which first made its global announcement in January, follows 30-something Ben Schotz (played by A Good Year and Skunk actor Boris van Severen), who returns to his hometown of Moresnet and reconnects with his childhood friends. While there, Ben and his friends decide to dig up a time capsule they buried 22 years ago on the anniversary of their friend Sophie’s Murder. In that capsule, Ben finds the diary of his brother Daan … and on the last page of the diary, there is a dead list predicting that all Ben’s friends will die within the week.
In a race against time to stop their future killer, Ben encounters Eva Rolin (played by The Teacher’s Lounge and Babylon Berlin actress Leonie Benesch), the new CEO of Thalamus, a German Neuro-technological Research centre founded by her grandfather Robert Rolin (played by De Joodse Raad and Rundfunk actor Pierre Bokma). Eva discovers that her grandfather carries a deep, dark secret … a secret reaching all the way back to Moresnet. The series features an exciting cast of new and established talent, including Jade Robin Olieberg, Arend Pinoy, Emma Nova and Brigitte Hobmeier to name a few.
Directed by Frank Van Passel and written by Jeff Hoogmartens, the series is a joint production between Streamz, Lompvis and Caviar Brussels in collaboration with Flare Film, Pupkin Film and ZDF Neo. Moresnet has already received a myriad of positive press, including features in Variety and Deadline. The series is also backed by several European contributors, including Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF), Screen Flanders, Caviar Film Financing, Netherlands Film Production Incentive, Newen Connect and Skoop Media.
