Adil and Bilall’s Syrian Drama “Rebel” Goes Stateside with US Release

After being part of the Official Selection at Cannes Film Festival last year and receiving phenomenal praise from the critics, trailblazing director duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys For Life, Gangsta, Black) take their highly anticipated film ‘Rebel’ to the US. The Syrian drama premieres this month with a series of exclusive premieres and Q&As, before being released nationwide in selected US cinemas on the 29th of September.
The Syrian drama follows Kamal, an aspiring Muslim rapper from Belgium played by Aboubakr Bensaihi (Black, Binti, Women of The Night), who bids to change his life after a receiving call action to return home and fight against President Assad in Syria. Meanwhile, his 12-year-old brother Nassim, played by Amir El Arbi (Soil), struggles to keep his head above water after being approached by similar Rebel forces for radicalisation, while their mother fights to keeps their family together. Rebel also stars breakout performances from notable international talent, including Tara Abboud (Amira), Saïd Boumazoughe (Soil, Gangsta) and Jennifer Heylen (Noise, H4z4rd) to name a few.
Rebel first released in Europe and North America and quickly gained attention, before later being acquired for US distribution by Yellow Veil Pictures, and is produced by Caviar’s Bert Hamelinck and Dimitri Verbeeck. Award wise, the film continues to have a successful award run, having won the main competition at the Italian L’Aquila Film Festival and Best Film at the Sant Jordi International Film Festival in 2022, as well as picking up 11 nominations at the Belgian Ensor awards among others.
Rebel premiered first in New York at the IFC Center on the 15th of September before later heading to the Nuart Theatre in LA on the 22nd; and will be moderated by Spiderman and Popstar actor Jorma Taccone (NYC) and critically acclaimed film director and producer, Oliver Stone (LA).
