Bi Gan is a Chinese filmmaker known for his dreamlike, atmospheric and deeply immersive cinema.

His films blur the boundaries between memory, reality and fantasy, using fragmented narratives, poetic imagery and an

intense sense of time and space. A distinctive feature of his work is his use of elaborate long takes, which immerse audiences in his characters’ perception of time, memory and dreams. Drawing from cinema, poetry, literature and painting, Bi Gan creates mysterious and hypnotic worlds that feel both intimate and otherworldly. His films include Kaili Blues, Long Day’s Journey Into Night and Resurrection. Kaili Blues earned him several awards, including Best New Director at the Golden Horse Awards and the Young Cinema Award at Locarno.
In 2025, Resurrection premiered in Competition at Cannes, where it received the Special Jury Prize.
