Director and co-founder of CANADA, Nicolás Méndez, is the mind and soul behind outstanding works of visual art.A collection of exquisite imagery, captured with clever technique, offering a way of storytelling through beauty, humour, and honesty.
He studied Art History and his first foray into the audiovisual industry was as a screenwriter.
After a few years working for various production companies, he co-founded CANADA in 2008 with partners. Since then, brands and artists alike have sought him out to direct commercials and music videos.
Nicolás has received international recognition for his finest music videos, winning the Grand Prix at Cannes Lions 2026 for ‘Berghain’ for Rosalía. The work also secured four D&AD Yellow Pencils and other accolades at The One Show and AICP. ‘Comix’ by El Guincho and Mala Rodríguez, as well as ‘Malamente’ and ‘Pienso en tu mirá’ by Rosalía, were nominated for Latin Grammys, where he won Best Short Form Music Video for ‘TKN’ by Rosalía and Travis Scott in 2020. He also received a nomination at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards for Beck’s ‘Up All Night’.
As a commercial director, Nicolás has worked for clients such as Instagram, Cupra, Mercedes, Apple, easyJet, Cadbury’s, Budweiser, Chupa Chups, and Huawei, among many others.
