Maggie Carey

Maggie Carey is a director and writer known for her debut feature The To Do List, which she wrote and directed, starring Aubrey Plaza and Bill Hader. She has since built a reputation for her work across both comedy and drama, directing standout episodes of HBO’s Barry and Netflix’s You—including the pivotal fifth episode of the show’s final season. She also brought her signature mix of tension and humor to Twisted Metal, the high-octane, post-apocalyptic series for Peacock starring Anthony Mackie.

 

Other credits including The Sex Lives of College Girls (HBO Max), Never Have I Ever (Netflix), Silicon Valley (HBO), and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt(Netflix), as well as broadcast staples like Brooklyn 99 (Fox/NBC), The Last Man on Earth (Fox), Mr. Mayor (NBC), and A.P. Bio (NBC).

 

Originally from Boise, Idaho, Maggie earned her BA in English from The University of Montana—where she played Division I soccer—and her MFA in Film from the University of Texas at Austin. She got her start in comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York.
